 Self-Cleaning – Zero Chemical water treatment system for cooling tower by using STP Treated water as Make-up

 

Using treated STP water as a makeup for cooling tower systems has become a popular option for reducing impacts on local water resources, but it comes with its own challenges because of its unique chemistry.

Our government strictly restricted all the factories that their waste water should not be exposed to the atmosphere. Continuously rising prices of fresh water and frequent drought and water shortages, have prompted industries to look out for ways to conserve water. Use of recycled water can reap substantial monetary benefits because of the large volumes of makeup water requirement in cooling towers. Water reuse has been implemented successfully in many type of industries in India and abroad. However, there have been failures, usually due to lack of understanding of how to effectively use the recycled water.

The critical parameters for cooling water are ΔT, Conductivity, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Hardness, pH and alkalinity.

The primary maintenance objective in most circulating water systems is to minimize the formation of scale deposits and conductivity can be used as the controlling value after the TDS/conductivity relationship is determined. Silica can produce difficult to remove deposits which impeds the transfer rate.

Tiaano ventured and developed a self-cleaning Electrolytic Scale Remover, using STP treated water as make-up. It removes scale by electrolytic operation without adding chemicals (zero chemicals). It generates oxidants in the water; oxidants miligate the corrosion, Bio-fouling, Micro-organism growth, Scaling & spread of airbone bacteria.

Water requirements:

i.              STP treated water is a makeup, should not be softened. If it is soft, there is no calcium ions or magnesium ions in the system, the hardness and electrical conductivity are so low that the process of electrolysis will be slow, resulting in poor effect.

ii.             Water quality of circulating water in the system; the electrical conductivity should be more than 500µs/cm, total hardness should be more than 300mg/L., then the effect of treatment will be obvious, Fresh water and sewage treated water mix will be allowed in the ration of 40:60.
